VirtueMart - Setting up Downloads to be Purchased as Products
First, you will need to configure the 'Download' option
- Login to the Virtuemart administration
- From the left menu choose 'Admin' > 'Configuration'
- Choose the 'Downloads' tab
- Set the following:
- 'Enable Downloads' - make sure this box is enabled.
- 'Order Status which enables download' - the best option for this is 'Confirmed' (makes sure they don't get the download link until payment is confirmed)
- 'Order Status which disables downloads' - the best option for this is 'Canceled'
- 'Downloadroot' - Caution: do not change this from the default setting or this function will not work
- 'Download Maximum' - the number of downloads allowed for one purchase
- 'Download Expire' - Sets the time range in seconds in which the download is enabled for the customer. This range begins with the first download! Note : 86400s=24h
- 'Keep Product Stock Level on Purchase?' - When enabled, the stock level for a downloadable product is not lowered although it was purchased by customers.
- Click Save
Next, You must add the file to the product
- Login to the Virtuemart administration
- From the left menu choose 'Products' > 'List Products'
- You will see a list of your products - next to the product name under the 'Media' column - click the small image
- In the window that pops up click 'New' from the top right corner
- Fill out the Upload fields:
- 'Filename' - click the 'browse' button and choose the file on your computer
- 'File Type' - choose 'Downloadable Product File (to be sold!)'
- 'Upload to' - Choose 'Download Path'
- 'File Title (what the Customer sees)' - This will be the title of the file the customer sees
- 'File URL (optional)' - You can leave this blank
- Click 'Save'
