VirtueMart - Adding Categories

Outline

1. Log in to your sites admin
2. From top menu: 'Components' > 'Virtuemart'
3. From the left menu: 'Products' > 'Category List'
4. Click 'New' to add a new category, or click an existing category name to edit a category
5. On the 'Category Information' tab enter the following:
• Category Name: here enter the name of the category
  
• Category Description: here you can enter a description for the category (optional)
  
• Parent: if you want this to be a main category, choose 'Default-Top Level', if you want this to be a sub category, pick the category you would like it to be under
  
• Show x products per row: you can choose how many products you would like to show per row, typically 1 or 2
• Category Browse Page: this lets you choose how the products are displayed, choose what is best for you, and experiment with the options. Typically choose:
• For multiple images per row with no description (just price, image and product name): 'mupltiple_per_row'
• For a single image per row, with price, image, product name and description: 1_product_per_row
• For multiple images per row with a description (price, image and product name and short description): multiple_w_description
• Category Flypage: do not change this
6. On the 'Images' tab
• Under 'Full Image' browse for the image that you want for this category
• Click 'Auto-Create Thumbnail
  
7. Click 'Save' at the top right corner of the page
8. Your new category is now added
